Singing Men of Texas North Central Chapter HOW TO JOIN SINGING MEN OF NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS
SMONCT is constantly looking for new members. But ours is an exclusive fraternity. To become a member you must be serving or have served as a minister of music/music director (either full-time or part-time) in a Baptist church. By meeting this qualification we assume that you will be able to meet both the music and “heart” requirements of the group. The choir has a kick-off retreat in August each year. It’s best if you can attend that retreat, but you may join the choir at any time during the year. That’s why the choir sings all local concerts with folders in hand. There are normally eight concerts annually from September through May (excluding December). We rehearse the afternoon of the concert at the concert site. Rehearsal starting time is always announced in the current newsletter. There is a mid-afternoon break for refreshment and fellowship. There is a prayer time at the end of each rehearsal. A free evening meal is provided by the host church. Our concert uniform is a black tux with black cummerbund and black bow tie, white tux shirt, and black shoes. A choir folder of music will be given to a new member at the first concert he attends unless special arrangements are made to get music and a rehearsal CD prior to the concert. (see contacts below) SMONCT also does international mission trips about every three years. The upcoming mission trip is to Ukraine April 19-30, 2010. If you qualify by being or having been a minister of music in a Baptist church, and want to join immediately, you may register for the retreat (if in the summer) or you may simply come to the rehearsal at the next monthly concert as listed on the concert schedule on this website. If you have questions you may speak to the director of the group, Don Blackley, or the Vice-President of Enlistment, Chuck Bridwell. Don Blackley 214.223.2151 or Chuck Bridwell 254.722.6471 or |
